The footage is a labyrinth; the cut is a thread that finds its door.

Every cut is like a chisel strike on the stone; the film was always in the footage.

Raw footage remembers everything; to edit is to intentionally forget, until only the underlying story remains.

Each frame is a note; each scene a movement; the cut makes the symphony.

Every proof is an edit: you cut until only the necessary remains.

Wine is the only language you finish learning by forgetting.

the personbio

Rafael Benedetti edits documentary films and designs media for Harvard University online education.

Trained in set theory, he drifted toward the editing bench and never left. He reads Borges the way others pray, takes wine more seriously than is reasonable, and keeps a running list of the words of every language he meets.
